I've been spending a lot of time in my studio, lately, in preparation for a show at the Washington Pavilion in Sept of 2016. Hence, I've been using up a lot of my found objects and I feel like I'm constantly in need of more. As I dream up ideas for new sculptures, I try to figure out what sort of old parts are needed to make them. Once I think I have some good ideas, I have to go looking for parts.
The other day, I decided I needed some old boat motors. After several phone calls, I finally tracked some down in a small town in Iowa. The guy had just what I was looking for, and it took him 45 minutes and seven cigarettes to strike a deal with me. I took all he had.
Now, back to work in my studio.
